Fluorspar Project (Kadipani):
Based on the findings of an exploration by the Geological Survey of India, GMDC built a 500-TPD Mining & Beneficiation Plant for Fluorspar in Kadipani of Vadodara District.
Fluorspar is a valuable mineral and Kadipani is its only source in India. GMDC refines the low grade Fluorspar found in this area to 96% purity and it finds numerous applications in Glass, Steel and Aluminium industries across the country.
In the coming decade, GMDC plans to modernize this plant.
Fluorspar Project : Overview :
Location : Kadipani, Vadodara District
Fluorspar Ore (11 Million Tonnes)
Production : 25,000 TPY
ROM - 23%
Beneficiation : to 96%
Application Areas : Freon Gas, Steel Refining
Year of Commencement : 1968M
Multi Metal Project (Ambaji)
GMDC built a multi-metal concentrator pilot plant at Ambaji in North Gujarat to access its base metal reserves which contain significant levels of Copper, Zinc and Lead.
In the coming decade, GMDC will develop a Multi-Metal Project at Ambaji jointly with a private sector company. The feasibility report for this project, prepared by a reputed US based consultant, assure its viability and high investment-returns potential.
Multi-Metal Project : Overview :
Location : Ambaji : North Gujarat
Base Metal Ore (7 Mill.T)
1% Cu, 3.5% Pb, 5.5% Zn
Year of commencement : 1992
Lignite Projects :
Panandhro, Mata No Madh & Tadkeshwar :
In the Seventies, Gujarat's industrialisation began to register an exponential growth rate. The two most dominant industrial segments of the State -Chemicals and Textiles depended on coal for fuel, delivered long distance from other States.
GMDC seized the moment and took up Lignite Mining in Panandhro of Kutch District. Over the year, Lignite turned out to be a preferred fuel substitute for the costlier coal. By 1998, the plant's annual production crossed 5 million tonnes and it could cater to the fuel requirements of more than 2,000 industrial units.
Eventually, GMDC emerged as India's largest merchant seller of Lignite and continues to maintain that stature even in the New Millennium. It is also the country's second largest Lignite miner.
To tap the State's immense Lignite deposits, the Government of Gujarat has initiated a drive to augment Lignite based power production the State. In view of this, GMDC has charted out major plans to help Gujarat meet its future Lignite demands, estimated to cross 10 million tonnes by 2010.
Bauxite Project (Gadhsisa) :
GMDC established a Bauxite Calcination Plant at Gadsisa, Kutch, with an annual capacity of 7.5 lakh tonnes. This plant caters to the requirements of Steel and Cement industries across the country.
Bauxite Project : Overview :
Location : Gadhsisa : Kutch
Bauxite (Al2O3 2H2O)
Production : 50,000 TPY
Min. 50% Al2O3
Calcined Bauxite
Min 86% Al2O3
Application Area : Refractories
Year of Commencement : 1994
250 MW Lignite Based Power Station (Chher Nani Village, Kutch) :
Three large pit-head Lignite Based Power Station are under implementation in Gujarat. Currently one of them is being built by GMDC.
This 250 MW Power Station coming up at Chher Nani Village in Kutch District will utilize the Lignite produced by GMDC's Panandhro and Akrimota Mines. The first unit of 125 MW is already synchronised in the month of March. It is scheduled to be commissioned by end of the June 2005. Shortly after that, the project's generation capacity may be expanded to 500 MW
This CFBC Technology based plant is a star project of the Corporation, and is slated to be one of Gujarat's most cost-effective and profitable plants.
A CFBC Boiler will enable the project to meet environmental protection standards. Condenser Cooling will be seawater-based, and the Boiler Make-up. Water will be produced by Thermal Desalination.
The project is being set up with a Debt Equity Ratio of 80:20, without increasing the company's existing equity base. Funds totalling Rs. 1,116 crore have already been sourced from banks and financial institutions.
